Embarking on clinical research training abroad is a transformative experience for many students but can present multiple challenges. International students encounter numerous obstacles, such as acclimating to an unfamiliar culture, mastering the intricacies of a foreign educational system, and learning to navigate the complexities of new workplace norms and professional etiquette. Our students prioritize gaining the knowledge crucial for their future achievements. Equally, they value the availability of a robust support system to ensure their success.
Exploring the possibility of studying at AAPS brings you closer to discovering many inspiring success stories. Many of our students once faced uncertainty about the future, just like you, and have now transformed into triumphant examples of what perseverance and quality education can achieve.
We invite you to explore the journey of one of our distinguished students, Tolulope Adegbite. Tolulope’s story exemplifies how the right blend of institutional support, dedication, and resilience can turn dreams into reality.
Tolulope’s Path to a Career in Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs
Tolulope has always been passionate about improving the health and safety of her community. Growing up in Ogun State, in the Southwestern part of Nigeria, Tolulope experienced first-hand the challenges of accessing safe and effective healthcare products community members face.
Fueled to make a difference and improve patient outcomes, Tolulope pursued her pharmaceutical dreams, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree from a university in Nigeria.
But that’s just where her story begins. Rather than rest on her laurels, Tolulope’s relentless pursuit of knowledge and drive to expand her horizons continuously pushed her to look outside her comfort zone for opportunities to get closer to achieving her dreams, eventually leading her to clinical research training at AAPS.
Her Experience During Clinical Research Training at AAPS
Tolulope understood that the correct education and training were essential for her desired career opportunities. This insight led her to the Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance, and Regulatory Affairs program at AAPS. “AAPS has a lot of programs that provide in-depth knowledge into any career that you choose,” she revealed.
She was also aware that a career in Regulatory Affairs demands expertise in multiple disciplines and subjects, influencing her decision on which institution to choose for her education. She said, “The lecturers at AAPS are very knowledgeable, and they have hands-on experience in all the courses they take.”
Adjusting to a new country and educational system posed challenges. However, for Tolulope, this transition was made markedly smoother thanks to the support and guidance provided by her instructors. Their approachable and understanding nature played a critical role in mitigating what could have been overwhelming academic stress. As Tolulope herself attests, “The lecturers are not just respectful and polite, but they also exhibit an unwavering readiness to assist. They’re always available to clarify doubts, answer any questions, and address any queries that you have.” This level of support exemplifies the nurturing educational environment that greatly eases the adjustment process, ensuring that students like Tolulope can focus on their studies and personal growth without the added burden of navigating academic stress alone.
How Our Career Services Propelled Tolulope Towards Her Dreams
Success in the clinical research field requires more than academic knowledge; practical skills gained through hands-on applications are also needed. Through a combination of her academic excellence and the efforts of our career services team, Tolulope secured her dream internship, which enhanced her knowledge and skills, paving the way for a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry.
“One thing I appreciate about AAPS is the support provided by the career services team at AAPS. They landed me an internship opportunity even while still taking my course. The team’s proactive approach and deep understanding of the industry’s landscape allowed them to identify and match me with an opportunity that aligned perfectly with my aspirations. She shares that they got me an internship position at a medical device company, which I’ve always dreamed of”.
Tolulope quickly moved up from her internship to a full time role and is now flourishing as the Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance Associate at Canadian Hospital Specialties (CHS). Her diligence and perseverance have set a benchmark for all current and future students of AAPS. She credits AAPS with equipping her with all the knowledge necessary to ensure her success in the role:
“AAPS prepared me for the challenges and demands of the job, and I’m so grateful for that.”
Tolulope’s drive and ambition remain as strong as ever. “My goal is to focus on medical devices and build a career in medical device regulations,” she concludes.
