  • Start Date: January 13, 2025, more
  • Certification: Certificates
  • Duration: 5 weeks

Program Overview

The Cannabis Edibles and Processing Certificate Program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a cannabis processing facility. The program is divided into four modules: Edibles Processing, Edibles Product Development, Cannabis Extraction Techniques and Methods, and Processing, Packaging, and Seed-to-Sale Software.

The Edibles Processing module covers the additional layer of quality assurance that comes with the introduction of food ingredients. Students will learn about food safety requirements for edible cannabis producers, including how to develop the PCP plan required by regulations, and how to implement a HACCP plan to ensure even more control over the safety of the final product.

In the Edibles Product Development module, students will explore the world of cannabis edibles product development, including the food science behind the product development process and the importance of business considerations when bringing a new product to market. They will learn about marketing strategies and product positioning, as well as the importance of branding and packaging in the cannabis industry.

The Cannabis Extraction Techniques and Methods module covers the science behind cannabis extraction and how it relates to the creation of cannabis edibles. Students will learn about the different extraction techniques used to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from the cannabis plant, including solvent-based extraction methods and non-solvent-based extraction methods. They will also examine the various factors that can influence the quality and potency of the extracted cannabis oil, such as temperature, pressure, and time. Students will learn how to control these factors to create high-quality cannabis oil that can be used in the creation of edibles.

Finally, in the Processing, Packaging, and Seed-to-Sale Software module, students will learn about the specific software used within cannabis production facilities. They will learn how to track the processing and packaging of cannabis products, labeling requirements, and receive hands-on experience utilizing seed-to-sale software for tracking and compliance in partnership with Ample Organics.

By the end of the program, students will have a deep understanding of the cannabis edibles product development process, including the legal, regulatory, and business aspects of bringing a product to market. They will have gained a deeper understanding of the process in producing high-quality cannabis oil, utilizing different extraction techniques, and controlling various factors that affect the quality and potency of the end product. Additionally, students will have learned about food safety requirements and quality management systems specific to edible cannabis producers, and the software used for tracking cannabis plants as they move throughout the facility.
